REQUIREMENTS
FOR MARRIAGE IN SOUTH AFRICA

Church APPLICATION
FORM to be completed in PRINT and in BLACK INK
2.
CLEAR [COLOUR] SCANNED
Copies of your ID’s / Passports + TVP’s (Temporary Visitor’s Permits as stamped in Passports on entry to
SA)
3.
CLEAR [COLOUR] SCANNED
Copies of 2 Witnesses ID’s (over 21)
4.
Proof of Residency
for both Bride & Groom, whether Foreign or Local (Eg. A current Rates Account)
5. Antenuptial Contract (Letter from Lawyer confirming ANC has
been registered MUST REACH the Wedding Officiant 4 days prior to the wedding)
NOTE: In SOUTH AFRICA you are, by default, married
“in community of property”.
If you want it to be any different & you wish to draw up an Antenuptial Contract, contact your lawyer for advice.
6. 3 Colour ID photos each (the wedding couple)
7. Copy of 1st page of Divorce Decree (if either
of you have been divorced) MUST HAVE COURT STAMP, CASE NUMBER AND DATE OF DIVORCE, and identify the 2 parties divorced
8. Scanned copy of Death Certificate (if widowed)
9. Letter of “Non-Impediment” (if non-residents
of South Africa) – you MUST present a document from your home country that you are “not currently married”
and this document MUST HAVE AN APOSTILE
NOTE: Residents of the UK ONLY, WILL BE REQUIRED TO GET A SWORN AFFIDAVIT IN THEIR HOME COUNTRY, notarised and
it MUST have an APOSTILE (a High Court Stamp)
10. Left Thumbprints – MUST BE taken by the Wedding Officiant
prior to the wedding
11. Your Vows (if you are going to personalise them)
12. If you are “under age” eg Male 18, Female 15, we require
a letter from the Minister of Home Affairs in South Africa, or if you are a Foreigner, letters from both your Social Welfare
and Home Office.
13. If you are between 18 and 21 you require a letter from BOTH your
parents on the Official Home Affairs Consent Form, obtainable from the Wedding Officiant.
14. In the case of REFUGEES or ASYLUM SEEKERS, we need a VALID PERMIT
with a CR NUMBER on it.
All originals should be presented to your Minister for verification.
FOREIGNERS - PLEASE NOTE:
If
you are a “Foreigner”, PLEASE check with your authorities in YOUR country of residence, and establish whether
or not you will require an UNABRIDGED MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE and an APOSTILE for your country.
The issuing of “Unabridged Certificates” is a function of Home Affairs and the married Couple must apply
in person before leaving South Africa.
