A WEDDING BLESSING CEREMONY
There is no set format to a Wedding Blessing, so you
can personally choose the words, readings and music, including your vows or commitments,
A Wedding Blessing in South Africa is usually
held after a Wedding or a civil Union in Court or at Home Affairs. The Blessing can be done
anywhere, there are no legal requirements. A couple may also choose a Wedding Blessing because either one or both of the parties
is divorced or the couples are from different religious backgrounds or for any other personal reason. A wedding blessing can
also take place without the need for a prior Legal wedding ceremony. As a Wedding Blessing is not an official marriage service
and banns may not be called and no 'official' paperwork may be done. The couple would not be legally married after a blessing.
Many couples are also looking for something that
is special and unique to them. A Wedding Blessing provides you with a special opportunity to celebrate your marriage in a
meaningful way, reflecting your uniqueness as a couple. A blessing is the ideal solution for couples that wish to commit themselves
to each other in a non-formal way.
For most couples, vows or commitments and an exchange
of rings play a major part in the Blessing ceremony. The ceremony can also include tributes or readings from relatives and
friends. A blessing is often seen as a way of confirming the couple’s commitment to each other.
And, if you have children, either together or from previous
relationships, then they can also be included in the ceremony. They may like to take part, such as reading a poem or playing
some music. You can also make promises to them, as you give public recognition to them being part of your family.
Your ceremony can be as formal or informal as you would
like. It can be an intimate occasion with a small number of family and friends or it can be part of a large and extravagant
celebration. If you would like to incorporate a particular interest or theme, then this can also be included. Choose where
you would like your ceremony to be held: in your home or garden, a special building or beauty spot. It is up to you.
Ask
Rev. Daniel Brits to assist and provide you with ideas on how to make your Wedding Blessing a memorable one.
Wedding Blessings (alone) and Marriages are two different
Church activities and will each carry their own Church fees and cannot be
combined; please ensure you make the appropriate bookings well in advance.
THE MARRIAGE BLESSING FORM

BLESSING OF THE RINGS
(The rings are presented and blessed)
HOLY FATHER, BLESS THESE SYMBOLS THAT
REPRESENT THEIR VOWS. MAY ALL WHO SEE
THESE RINGS, RESPECT THEIR MEANING. LET THESE RINGS REMIND THEM OF THEIR LOVE, CARE AND COMMITMENT TO EACH OTHER ON THIS
DAY BEFORE GOD AND FOREVER.

LIVE (Put the ring on the finger)
THROUGH OUR MARRIAGE WE HAVE BECOME INSEPARABLE (Put the ring on the finger)

THE COUPLE'S
PRAYER
We trust each other with the secrets of our hearts and souls.
So please Lord, bless this Holy bond,
A true marriage by Your will,
With Your finest grace and love,
Let it last for eternity.
Make our marriage stronger each day
of the journey, Our two hearts deserve the
best.
Let our spirits prosper in Your care,
Guide us to be faithful and true,
Give
us wisdom for whatever path You choose. We made a
promise, a sacred vow,
But, it’s Your blessing that will take us through.
In Your care we commit our lives,
Holding hands till the dawn blends us in darkness to the Light.
AMEN
THE MINISTER’S FINAL WORDS
Now the two of you will feel no more rain,
for each of you will be shelter for the other. Now you will feel no cold, for each of you will be warmth to the
other.
Now there will be no loneliness, for each of you will be companion
to the other. For you are two persons, but now, there is only one life before you. May beauty surround you both in the journey
ahead and through all the years.May happiness be your companion and may your days together be good and long upon the earth.
Treat yourselves and each other with respect, and remind yourselves often of what brought you together.
Give the highest
priority to the tenderness, gentleness and kindness that your connection deserves.
When frustration, difficulties and
fear assail your relationship, as they threaten all relationships at one time or another, remember to focus on what is right
between you, not only the part which seems wrong. In this way, you can ride out the storms when clouds hide the face of the
sun in your lives. Remembering that even if you lose sight for a moment, the sun is still there, and so is hope.
And
if each of you takes responsibility for the quality of your life together, it will be marked by abundance and delight. May
God bless you abundantly in wealth and health.
May you all have peace, love and care abundantly through God our Heavenly
Creator of all. AMEN
END OF SERMON (The couple turns to face each other, they kiss and walk away holding hands)
